Banjo-Pilot is a Banjo series racing game for the Game Boy Advance in 2005. It actually began as a sequel to Diddy Kong Racing called Diddy Kong Pilot in 2001, but Nintendo sold their share of Rare Ltd. to Microsoft and opted out of their publishing contract. After refused to publish it, in 2002-2003, before the decision was made to design it into a Banjo-Kazooie game, Diddy Kong Pilot was being redeveloped into an entirely different game. After the dispute which lead to Rare being purchased by Microsoft, Rare lost the rights to Donkey Kong characters and was forced to change them to Banjo characters. Rare would later team up with Nintendo to release Diddy Kong Racing DS. However, Rare abandoned the Banjo-Kazooie franchise after four years due to the commercial failure of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.
